Plan Your Pursuit

Everything you need to know before the night begins.

FAll Conditions

Why Fall is One of the Best Times to See the Aurora

Our fall expeditions are scheduled around the darkest nights of the year, long hours of darkness and more active solar conditions that increases viewing probabilities.

Northern lights over Yellowknife during an aurora photography experience
Up to 15+
hours of darkness

More darkness means more opportunity to witness the Aurora in all its breathtaking beauty.

-5C to +15C
average temperature

Evening temperatures are cold enough to remind you you're in Canada's North, yet mild enough to spend longer time beneath the lights and enjoy the experience. You still need to dress appropriately.

High
AURORA POTENTIAL

The equinox season is known for increased geomagnetic activity and vivid displays.

New Moon
around the equinox

We select 15 nights around the new moon ensuring the sky is at its darkest allowing viewing without competing with the moon.

Your safety comes first

Pursuit Safety

01

Every pursuit begins with a brief safety orientation. Participation is required and helps ensure everyone is informed, comfortable, and ready for a safe evening beneath the northern sky.

02

Exploring the North means embracing a dynamic natural environment. Wildlife, changing weather, darkness, and uneven terrain are all part of the experience. Your guide is trained to assess these conditions throughout the evening. Please remain with the group and follow all instructions so everyone can enjoy the pursuit safely.

03

The places we visit are as much a part of the experience as the Aurora itself. Please help us preserve them by treating each location with care and leaving it exactly as we found it.

04

The Aurora Pursuit takes place in remote environments where sound judgment and awareness are essential. Guests are expected to arrive and remain fit to participate throughout the evening. Anyone whose judgment or ability is impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any other condition may be refused participation or removed from the pursuit for the safety of the group. No refunds will be issued in these circumstances.

booking a Private Pursuit

A private pursuit is a full buy-out of the evening. Select five guests at booking to reserve the night exclusively for your group. Private groups include up to six guests so families and friends can stay together.

Late Arrivals & No-Shows

To ensure every guest enjoys the full Aurora Pursuit experience, we depart promptly at the scheduled time. Guests arriving more than 15 minutes after the scheduled departure will be considered a no-show, and the reservation will be forfeited. Delaying departure means less time beneath the northern lights for everyone.

departure time

Our standard departure is 9:00 PM, carefully chosen to maximize your evening beneath the northern lights. When conditions indicate an earlier display, we'll reach out and offer an earlier departure. The sky sets the schedule, not the clock.

If We Cancel

If conditions make the evening genuinely unsafe due to hazardous road conditions, severe weather, or unexpected vehicle failure, you may choose either a full refund or transfer your reservation to another available date, subject to availability. If the decision is ours, the cost is ours to carry.

If the aurora does not appear

Once the expedition has departed, refunds are not issued due to a lack of aurora activity, cloud cover, geomagnetic conditions, or any other natural conditions beyond our control.

our commitment to you

The North Makes No Promises.
We Do.

The Aurora is never be guaranteed. What we can promise is our dedication to giving you the very best opportunity to experience it.

Every pursuit is thoughtfully planned using forecasts, local knowledge, and years of experience.

We remain flexible, adapt to changing conditions, and never stop pursuing the lights ourselves. It's this commitment that shapes every evening we share with our guests.

What you can expect

What Defines Every Pursuit

plan

The Pursuit Begins Early

Every pursuit begins long before we meet. We study forecasts, monitor solar activity, and follow changing conditions so that when the time comes to head north, every decision has already been guided by careful preparation.

follow

Follow The Conditions

No two nights unfold the same way. We continuously evaluate conditions throughout the evening and adjust our plans whenever the North offers a better opportunity. The destination is never fixed. The pursuit is.

experience

Room to Experience

Every pursuit is intentionally limited to five guests. Fewer people means more conversation, more photography guidance, and the freedom to pause when the Aurora comes alive. You're never part of a crowd. You're part of the pursuit.

questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. The Aurora is never guaranteed, which makes every pursuit unique. We promise thoughtful preparation, careful planning, and flexibility to follow the best conditions each evening. Our commitment is simple: to give you the best opportunity the North offers.

  • Not at all. Whether you're holding a professional camera or simply looking up in wonder, this experience is for anyone who wants to experience the Aurora. Curiosity is all you need to bring.

  • Come anyway. Raymond will photograph your experience beneath the Aurora, so you'll leave with professional portraits and memories to take home.

  • Fall evenings typically range from +5°C to −5°C, though wind can make it feel colder. Since we'll spend time standing beneath the sky, dressing in warm layers is one of the best ways to enjoy the evening comfortably. We'll also have hand warmers and warm drinks available.

  • Each pursuit begins with pickup at 9:00 p.m. and usually ends between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m. We choose the destination that evening based on weather, cloud cover, and Aurora conditions. Every route is guided by the sky, not a fixed itinerary.

  • Some viewing locations have washrooms; others do not. We'll let you know what to expect before the evening and plan accordingly when possible.

  • Absolutely. Every night beneath the northern sky is different, and booking multiple evenings gives you more chances to experience  more breathtaking Aurora displays. Many guests choose two or more nights for that reason.

  • The Private Pursuits are ideal for families and can accommodate up to six guests. Shared Pursuits are best suited for guests aged 12 and older to ensure a comfortable experience for everyone.

  • The Aurora Pursuit is in its inaugural season, so our collection of guest reviews is just beginning to grow. Before launching The Aurora Pursuit, Raymond spent years capturing the Aurora across Alberta and Yellowknife, sharing these magical moments with a select few while perfecting the philosophy that now guides every expedition. Today, this experience is being shared with a wider audience.

Every review here comes from a real guest who has witnessed the Aurora with us, and we’re excited to welcome many more in the seasons ahead.
